Student Application


Web Submission: Complete the on-line course data entry form. Upon submission you will be sent an email acknowledgement to your best email address confirming that you have completed the basic application. This email will include a link that you can use to return to your application to submit the following Required Supporting Documentation (in .pdf format). If reference letters are required, an email will be sent to all your listed references asking that they submit a letter of reference in .pdf format supporting your application.

  • Enclose a copy of your curriculum vitae.
  • Please arrange for two individuals who are familiar with your academic and research background and goals to provide a letter of reference in support of your application. These letters should not come from faculty members of the course to which you are applying. However, recommendations from course faculty members may be submitted as a supplemental third evaluation.
  • Transcripts: Undergraduate and graduate transcripts are required of applicants currently enrolled in graduate school. M.D.s and Ph.D.s need only submit graduate school transcripts. Although official copies are not required, originals should be submitted. If your institution outside the U.S. does not issue transcripts, we will accept copies of diplomas and certificates.
  • Test Scores: Graduate students should submit score reports from any graduate level test taken (GRE General, GRE Subject, MCAT, TOEFL, etc.). Official score reports are not required; copies will be accepted. Please note that ETS in Princeton does not release information to the MBL.

We would like to emphasize to applicants that MBL summer courses are extremely rigorous, requiring complete student participation in all aspects of the program for the full duration of the course. Proficiency in the English language is essential for course students. Morning lectures are held six days per week, usually last until lunch time, and often include small group discussions. Intensive hands-on laboratories begin after lunch and typically run until about midnight. There are also frequent guest lectures in the evenings. There is little time for much else but course work. Please be aware of this as you prepare the statements requested of you below.

  • Statement of Goals: Please provide a one-page description of your goals for the next three years related to your reasons for wanting to take this course.
  • Summary of Research Experience: Please provide a chronological synopsis of research experience with a list of publications, if any. Please do not submit reprints.
  • Statement of Your Expectations for the Course: Please discuss what you expect this course experience to be like, and what you personally expect to gain from attending it.

Deadline: Completed application forms and required supporting documentation must be received by February 1, 2016.   You will be notified of the Admissions Committee's decision by mid March.

Financial Information:   Tuition: TBD; Room & Board: Additional. Financial assistance is available for participants in the summer courses, including non-U.S. citizens. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of need. Candidates wishing to be considered for assistance must complete the Financial Aid Information Section included in this application. Scholarship requests are not a factor in admissions decisions.
